Where the emissions actually come down

Six places a working household or a small crew can cut real emissions this month — every one of them also lowers a bill or makes somebody safer.

Start where people breathe

The biggest emissions cut available to a family is the one inside their own house: air sealing, insulation, a heat pump instead of a failing furnace, a sealed duct run, a vented range hood. Lower bills and cleaner indoor air are the same repair.

Sun first, on everything

Rooftop PV, battery backup, solar water heating, solar lighting on parks and streets, solar pumps on lots that flood. Every kilowatt generated on site is a kilowatt nobody has to burn — and it keeps working during an outage.

Fewer, cleaner miles

Routes bundled by block so one van does what four cars did. Electric and hybrid weighed first on every fleet replacement, e-cargo for short hauls, idle-time policy on the trucks we do run, and shared rides to jobs, audits, classes, and appointments.

Reuse beats manufacturing

The emissions in a cabinet, a water heater, or a length of copper are already spent. Putting a salvaged one back into service avoids all of it — recovery is climate work before it's ever a waste program.

Leaks, venting, and combustion safety

Gas leak detection, combustion analysis, refrigerant handling done right, and CO monitoring on every job. Unburned methane and a cracked heat exchanger are an emissions problem and a life-safety problem at once.

Trees, soil, and shade

Planting and watering street trees, rain gardens, permeable surfaces, and green lots. Shade cuts cooling load, soil holds carbon and stormwater, and a green block is measurably cooler than a bare one.

Recycling run like a supply chain, not a hope

A blue bin at the curb is the last ten percent of recycling. The other ninety is sorting at the source, having somewhere for the hard stuff to go, and putting salvaged material back to work.

Sorted at the source, not wished away

Bins, labels, and a two-minute walkthrough at the start of a job so cardboard, metal, plastic, glass, and trash leave separated. Contamination is what sends a whole load to the landfill — sorting on site is what prevents it.

A real salvage yard, logged

Fixtures, lumber, doors, windows, appliances, panels, wire, and hardware pulled, cleaned, tagged, and inventoried. What comes out of one house gets installed in the next one. The waste stream is the supply chain.

Metal and scrap recovery that pays the crew

Copper, aluminum, steel, and appliance scrap recovered and sold at fair weight. Funds in, funds out — that revenue pays the wages on the free household work instead of leaving in somebody's pickup.

Hard-to-handle items taken seriously

Mattresses, tires, paint, electronics, batteries, fluorescents, and refrigerants routed to the right processor instead of an alley. Bulk pickup days coordinated street by street so nobody has a reason to dump.

Block composting and food scraps

Compost bins for households and community gardens, food scrap collection where it's wanted, finished soil going straight back into lots, gardens, and tree pits. Organics out of the trash is the single largest easy diversion there is.

Illegal dump cleanup and prevention

Cleared, sorted, photographed, then lit, fenced, or planted so it doesn't refill. Cleanup without prevention is just a rerun.

Got usable material sitting in a garage, a basement, or a jobsite dumpster? Post it to the home goods board and it goes to a family instead of a landfill.

Measured out loud

"Better than we ever have" only means something if it's written down. Numbers get published as they come in — no targets announced without the tracking behind them.

What we count

Kilowatt-hours generated on site, therms and kWh avoided after retrofits, tons diverted from landfill by stream, salvaged items reinstalled, compost produced, fleet miles and electric share, and dollars returned to crews.

How we count it

Metered where a meter exists, weighed where a scale exists, counted by item where neither does. Photos and work orders attached. No modeled numbers presented as measured ones.

Who gets to see it

Published plainly for households, partners, and anybody funding the work. When a number is an estimate, it says estimate. When we do worse than last quarter, that gets published too.

Where this connects

Infrastructure and trades rebuilds the systems that create or prevent the waste in the first place. Green energy for families handles bills, retrofits, and the free playbooks. Vehicles, tools, and crews supply the bins, the haul, and the hands. Building reinvigoration keeps standing structures out of the debris pile, and the home goods board keeps what still works in service. Gardens, not landfills is where the land itself ends up when we get this right. The whole loop is part of the international green 💚 blue 💙 work. Love is the one true universal language.
